Last Minute Christmas Gifts

Hi!  It's Christmas Eve and the last thing I have time for is blogging, but here I am anyway. :)  I made some last minute goodies last night and thought they'd make for a good last minute Christmas post.  I made granola and sugar scrubs.  They are both insanely easy and make nice gifts.  (Please excuse the not-so-great pic, we have had rain for DAYS and there was no hope of natural sunlight for this pic.)

The granola recipe is not my own, I used the one found here.  I tripled the recipe to get the amount pictured, which took 9 cups of oats.  The only thing I changed in the recipe is I used olive oil instead of vegetable oil.  I have tried both and not only is olive oil healthier, the granola came out better tasting using it.  I always leave out additions to my granola.  That way you can add whatever you want each time you eat it.  This recipe is so good we usually don't add anything anyway!  For gifting just package the granola into mason jars and tie with a pretty bow.

The sugar scrub recipe is not exact.  I started out with 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup olive oil.  I wanted to package this in small jelly jars, but this amount didn't fill the jars enough for my liking.  So, I added about 2 tablespoons of sugar and poured in about 1 tablespoon more of oil.  I scented all but one of these with pumpkin spice, for which I used 1 tablespoon of.  For myself, I used peppermint oil.  I love peppermint sugar scrub!  I mixed these right in the jelly jars.  I am going to add ribbon and a label to them and let the kids give them as gifts. (They did help make them, and by help I mean spill sugar all over the floor! lol)

I hope this helps with some last minute gifts, but don't stress too much about presents.  Remember, JESUS is the reason for the season!  God Bless, and Merry Christmas!

Halloweens Past

So, I don’t get all in to Halloween like many people do.  We don’t do witches or ghosts or ghouls, but we DO do costumes!  It is something that I love!  I don’t think I’m going to dress up this year, but I’m excited about the kids’ costumes.

I never like to post our costumes until after Halloween because I want them to be a surprise, but I thought I’d share some costumes from past years since some of you might like some last minute ideas.  So, here they are!

Card Table Makeover

Hi!  I promised last week on Facebook to put together a tutorial for my card table makeover and here it is!  I am so happy with the way this project turned out!  I love card tables.  They are great in a small place because you can just fold the legs in and tuck it away somewhere.

My Clumsy Self

Hey y’all!  So, in case you didn’t know, I’m clumsy.  That usually just results in bumps and bruises that I don’t even remember getting, but this time it has caught up with me.  I broke my wrist.
So, I was working in my yard Tuesday before last and it was getting dark so I decided to put up the water hose and go inside.  I was walking backwards and pulling the hose when I stepped in a rut in the yard, fell backwards and landed on my left wrist.

It was one of those strange moments where you’re like “what’s going on? this isn’t normal!”.  I’m sure if anyone had been around to see I would have looked crazy. lol  To make a long story short I have to have surgery.
Anyway, I had a lot of post ideas for this Summer since I will have more free time.  I don’t know how many will get done now though.  This one handed typing is not cool.
Hopefully I can share what I’ve been doing some though.  My mama took me to town to get craft supplies to keep me busy while I recuperate and I’ve already gone through most of them! lol (I can’t drive btw and I’ll be having surgery Monday so I don’t know when I’ll be healed enough to drive again.)
I’m trying to look on the bright side of all this though.  I’ve been going through a rough patch lately and I’ve finally started to come out of it and get back on track, spiritually speaking.  I found a church I like and I feel like the devil is attacking me.  That just makes me more determined because if the devil is trying this hard to get me down I know God must have something great in store for me!  It’s when the devil leaves you alone that you need to worry!  I just thank the Lord for helping me through this!  He is so good!
I hope you all are having a great Summer (or Winter depending on where you are) and God bless!

My Garden

I am really putting in the effort to have a great garden this year.  My flower bed turned out so much better than I expected last year, so I’m going for a vegetable garden this year too.
This is a big step for me.  I usually kill plants.  It’s not intentional of course, it’s more like plant-slaughter, a result of my poor attention span…
Anyway, so far so good.  I’m really happy with how the whole outdoor space is turning out.  It’s so rewarding to have fresh, healthy food that you grew yourself (we already have radishes!) and to have a beautiful (it’s getting there) outdoor space.
I’ll be going into more detail about what I’ve done outside in different posts, but I just want to share some pictures I’ve taken of the garden from the beginning up until now.  If you have any questions about anything you see just let me know!
Thanks for stopping by and God bless!

A New Crochet Plant Hanger

**UPDATE** Near the end of the pattern, when making the hanging straps, I had originally put 29 sc between the straps.  I have changed that to 27 sc because I followed the pattern twice myself and the straps were not evenly spaced.  Sorry for any trouble that may have caused.

By far the most popular post on this blog is the pattern for the crochet plant hanger.  You can find the original post with pictures here and the post with the pattern here.  So, I was thinking since I've learned a lot more about crochet since making the original pattern it was time to make a new one!  I love these for store bought hanging baskets.  I think they are so much prettier than those metal wire or plastic hangers!

Unfortunately,  I came up with the pattern at the end of last Summer, so these pictures leave a lot to be desired.  I'll update them when there is something more colorful to fill my hanging baskets. :)

Pretty sure the neighbors thought I was crazy trying to get this picture! ;)

Mason Jar Solar Light

Hi.  I FINALLY got around to doing a project I’ve wanted to do since LAST spring.  It’s the mason jar solar light.  I’ve seen a few tutorials for them online.  I wish I could post a link but since it’s been a year I don’t know where I first saw it.  Pinterest most likely!
Anyway, here’s the final product!

Not the best picture, but you get the idea.  I take most all of my pictures with my phone, but it fails me with low light shots.
I did get some good progress shots though.

Quick Closet Makeover

Hi!  So, I've been in full on spring cleaning mode.  I want to purge my house of everything!  At least until I start "purging" and realize I want to keep most of my stuff. lol

Anyway, one thing I have been purging is the girls' closet.  I did pretty good, but it still looked pretty bad, until today!
